The Grown Folks Color Party at Rustic Couch

My friends have lives. They’re busy being mothers, wives, girlfriends, godmothers, aunts, best friends, employees, volunteers, etc. This makes it hard for everyone to get together when it’s not someone’s birthday. Luckily, I was able to lure them out to color.

Yes, color.

I got into the adult coloring craze last summer. Coloring relaxed me so much and allowed me to forget about the current stressors in my life. I knew if it helped me that it a few hours coloring could definitely be of interest to my friends.

And it was.

I booked the private room at Rustic Couch in Duluth for two hours. I arrived a little early, but the cashier/waitress allowed me into the room to start preparing. Once I was in there (she had to kick out two girls that were studying), I began to lay out the coloring books (that were graciously donated by Blue Star Coloring, Millie Marotta/Sterling Publishing, and Andrea Pippins/Penguin Random House) and coloring utensils.

Since it was a little bit after lunch time, I ordered a few appetizers for my friends to snack on as they arrived and started coloring.

The calamari, spicy crawfish dip, and sweet & spicy and lemon pepper chicken wings came out within 15-20 minutes. I specifically ordered the spicy crawfish dip because I had it before and it was sooo good. And y’all know I don’t eat wings, but my friends said that they were good. The lemon pepper wings, however, don’t have a strong, typical lemon pepper flavor like they were used to.rustic-couch-loaded-tots

Loaded tater tots, quesadillas, and crispy nuggets were also ordered later on. The tots were delicious, I heard the quesadillas were okay, and the crispy nuggets were good to some and nasty to others.

So we ate and we colored.

And we talked and we laughed.

Also, I gave away three door prizes just to extend my appreciation—a pack of Crayola 50 colored pencils, a Fandango gift card, and the I Love My Hair coloring book.

Overall, we had a great time. It was like girl talk over appetizers, smoothies, flavored tea, and coloring books. Those ingredients made for a relaxing, yet fun afternoon.

If you’re in the area for a place to work, hang with friends, or just get something to eat, I’d suggest Rustic Couch.
